Brad Jarvis, Master of WhiskeyA veteran in the food and restaurant field, Brad is both a school trained chef and former restaurant owner; so it should come as no surprise that when Johnnie Walker and the Classic Malts of Scotland crossed his path nearly two years ago, a terrific relationship was soon to follow. Although Brad’s roots may be Irish, there is no doubt that Scotland holds a dear place in his heart. According to Brad, what distinguishes Johnnie Walker and the Classic Malts of Scotland from other beverages is the uniqueness of their nose and taste. Not only do these fine Scotch whiskeys possess depth and character, but, says Brad, within this family, there is a malt for every taste and every occasion. Whether it be Talisker severed with freshly shucked New England oysters at the beginning of a meal or chilled Johnnie Walker Gold Label accompanying Brad’s own molten chocolate cake at the end, there is something for everyone. The right malt can bring out the best in a dish, and Johnnie Walker and the Classic Malts of Scotland consistently meet this challenge. Since beginning his formal training in with the chemists, distiller and branders associated with Johnnie Walker and the Classic Malts of Scotland, Brad has traveled to Scotland twice. These forays into the past, present and future of scotch whiskey have allowed Brad to become acquainted with the intricacies involved with producing some of the world’s finest malted whiskeys. Along with his fellow Brand Ambassadors, he has also been the beneficiary of the 40 years of knowledge possessed by Evan Cattanach; tapping into this fountain of knowledge has been a privilege. When taking in the whole of this field of spirits, Brad admires the fact that these malted whiskeys are not only a natural product, producing very little waste, but that the process of distilling has a long, relatively unchanged history, dating back to the 15thcentury. |
