Mondovino, by Jonathan Nossiter, exposes the wine world from top to bottom, new world to old.  Properties changing hands, foreign names brought across country lines and oceans, the collapse of the "mom & pop" grower, and the "globalization" or "Parkerization" of the wine industry are just some of the themes Nossiter explores in this 2005 documentary, which highlights the people (and vineyards) that shape the modern wine world: Robert Parker, whose palate is so significant his nose is literally insured; Michel Rolland, international wine consultant to the very top producers; the Mondavis, pioneers of California wine; James Suckling, editor of Wine Spectator; amongst many others.

In Jonathan's quest to reveal what lies "behind the label" in the world of wine, he makes stops at the most influential, noteworthy vineyards across the globe.  During this viewing, you'll have the oportunity to taste some of these renowned labels.  (this is basically the Sideways viewing on steroids).  This will include heavy hitters from: Mondavi, Pezerolles, Clos de los Siete, Chateau Soucherie, Mas de Daumes Gassac, Frescobaldi, Ornellaia and more. A total of 8 wines will be featured.

As this film is quite long (135 mins), we'll take a 30 minute intermission for discussion and to serve food from Il Capriccio (menu below)

Nossiter really does offer excellent insight into this ever-evolving multi-generational industry, and films in such a way that really makes you feel like an insider.  This is sure to be an intellectual, multi-sensory, and delectable experience - a unique way to spend a Friday evening with friends or that special someone.
